Uncertainty, co-ordination and path dependence

چکیده
Our objective is to assess whether dynamics hinder or assist coordination in a game with strategic complementarities. We study two dynamic aspects: different agents make decisions at different points in time; and extra information about a payoff-relevant state of nature becomes available over time. We find that the dynamic resolution of information matters most for uniqueness of equilibrium. This is demonstrated by showing that the condition for uniqueness is weaker when learning occurs. We also analyse how successfully agents coordinate when there is a unique equilibrium. Finally, we show that path dependence occurs: the order in which signals arrive matters, as well as the total amount of information received. In particular we thank J. Lee for helping us with the proof of Lemma 2. Remaining errors are ours. Knowledge, managed or co-ordinated as a strategic resource, can help to internalise uncertainty or volatility and play an important role in generating and sustaining competitive advantage. One potentially important determinant of knowledge coordination between firms is the relative strength of the knowledge bases of the two partner companies. In the context of the local supply chain this paper ...
متن کاملA New Approach for Determination of Break Points for Protection Co-Ordination
Interconnected power system networks are multi loop structured. Settings determination of all over current and distance relays in such networks can be in different forms and complicated. The main problem is the determination of starting points i.e. the location of starting relays in the procedure for settings, which is referred to as break points. In this paper, a new approach based on graph th...

متن کاملIndustry as an Organisation of Agents: Innovation and R&D Management
In this paper we present a model of the dynamics of the industry for innovation and R&D management. It is a novel view of the evolution of industry, both in theoretical and computational terms. Industries are seen as organisations of firms and consumers, and the aggregated behaviour is the consequence of the decisions taken by the individual firms. A multiagent system is designed and programmed...
